The short answer

In short

There is no Chord ai web version. The vendor says the app is only officially supported on Android and iOS, and that on a PC you can mirror your phone screen or try an Android emulator it calls probably not very stable. Chord Detector runs in a desktop browser on Windows, macOS or Linux, with no emulator: paste a YouTube link or upload a file and read the chords above the lyrics.

“At the moment the app is only supported officially on Android and iOS. On PC, the easiest is to use screen mirroring to display your phone screen on the PC which is sometimes sufficient. It might be possible to use an Android emulator for PC but it has to handle the Google play store. A user reported some success with the MEmu Android emulator for PC, but it’s probably not very stable.”

On a computer

Every way to use Chord ai on a PC or Mac, from official to workaround

The vendor does not ship Chord ai for PC, so each route below either keeps the phone in the loop or leans on software the vendor does not support. The list runs from most to least official, and the last step skips the app entirely.

  1. The official apps: Android and iOS only

Install Chord ai on a phone or tablet. These are the two platforms the vendor supports, so everything else on this list is a way around sitting at a computer.

  2. Screen mirroring your phone

The vendor calls this the easiest route on a PC: display your phone screen on the computer, which it says is “sometimes sufficient”. You are still using the phone app, and the computer is only a bigger screen.

  3. An Android emulator

The vendor says an emulator has to handle the Google Play store, and that one user reported some success with MEmu “but it’s probably not very stable”. Treat it as an experiment, not something to rely on mid-lesson.

  4. A Mac with Apple Silicon

The US App Store listing for Chord ai is labeled “Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS”. That is the vendor’s store label, not a promise either way, so check the listing for your own Mac before paying for anything.

  5. Skip the app and use a browser tool

Chord Detector is not a port of Chord ai. It is a separate site that covers the core job, turning a recording into chords, in any desktop browser. Try it with a link or a file and judge the result by ear.

Side by side

Chord ai vs Chord Detector: what each one does

Chord ai is the wider app: it listens through the microphone, splits stems and exports PDF and MIDI. Chord Detector is the narrower tool that works wherever you have a browser. Vendor details come from the chordai.net FAQ and the US App Store listing.

Prices and features checked October 2026; confirm on the vendor site. Chord ai prices are from the US App Store and do not include family-sharing variants.

Chord types

Do you need the extra chord types Chord ai Pro lists?

Only if you play or arrange with them. A wider vocabulary matters for jazz voicings and bass lines, less for a campfire chart. These are the terms from the vendor’s Pro list, in plain words.

Slash chord
A chord with a different note in the bass, written C/E. It shows the bass line moving under a chord that stays the same. Slash chords are on Chord ai’s Pro list and not on ours.
9, 11 and 13
Stacked extensions on top of a seventh chord, common in jazz, soul and funk. Chord ai lists 6/9/11/13 under Pro. Our list stops at 7, maj7, m7 and 6.
Add9, add11, add13
A triad plus one extra note, with no seventh. Think of a bright major chord with a ninth ringing on top. It is on Chord ai’s Pro list and not on ours.
Half-diminished and dim7
Tense, unstable chords used to lead into the next chord. Chord ai Pro lists both. Our list has the plain diminished chord (dim) only.

Trade-offs

What you give up and what you gain by using a browser

You gain a tool that needs nothing installed. You give up live listening, stems and a wider chord list. The Chord ai side of both columns comes from the vendor’s own pages.

What you gain

  • Nothing to install: open a tab on Windows, macOS or Linux, with no emulator and no phone mirroring.
  • The chart on a full-size screen, with chords above the lyrics and a player that highlights the current line.
  • Key, tempo and time signature on the same song page.
  • Chord diagrams for guitar and ukulele, a transpose control, ChordPro export and print.
  • A one-off credit pack: $5 for 10 credits (10 full songs), no subscription, and credits never expire while your account is active. Only the result is stored; audio is deleted within 24 hours.

What you give up

  • Live microphone listening. Chord Detector reads files and YouTube links only.
  • Stem separation. There is no stem or vocal download.
  • PDF and MIDI export. You get ChordPro and print.
  • Chord types past our list: slash chords, 9/11/13, add chords and voicing recognition.
  • Piano and bass chord diagrams, smart capo and alternate tunings.

How it works

How to get chords from a recording in your browser

Four steps, none of them an install. The analysis runs on our servers and the result opens as a private song page in the same tab.

Free to try: without an account you see the chords of the first 60 seconds plus the key, tempo and time signature of the whole song. A free account unlocks your first full song with lyrics, with no card.

  1. Paste a link or upload a file

Use the box at the top of this page. A public YouTube video up to 15 minutes works, or an MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC file up to 50 MB and 15 minutes. If a video is private, age-restricted or region-blocked, upload the audio instead.

  2. Wait for the analysis

Chords usually arrive in about twenty seconds, and the lyrics a couple of minutes later. The model reads the full spectrum, and the decoder removes single-frame flicker and snaps chord changes to the beat.

  3. Read the song page

Chords sit above the lyrics, with the key (major or minor), tempo in BPM and time signature at the top. Press play and the current line is highlighted.

  4. Adjust it and play

Transpose to a key you can sing, open the guitar or ukulele diagrams, print the chart or export it as ChordPro. Detection is automatic and can prefer major or minor on an ambiguous recording, so check the first verse by ear.

Which one

Who should use which

The two are not rivals for every job. Pick by the device you have and what you need to leave with.

  • Choose Chord ai if

    You live on your phone

You want chords from the microphone while a band plays, stems to practice against, PDF or MIDI files, or the wider chord list in Pro. It is a native app, so it fits the phone in your pocket.

  • Choose Chord Detector if

    You sit at a computer

You have a Windows, macOS or Linux machine, a recording or a YouTube link, and you want a chart with lyrics, diagrams and ChordPro without installing anything. A $5 pack of 10 credits means no subscription.

  • Use both if

    You split the work

Use the Chord ai app for live listening and stems on the road, and the browser for lyrics-and-chords charts at your desk. Looking at a song catalogue instead? See the Chordify alternative comparison.

FAQ

Chord ai on a computer: questions

Is there a Chord ai web version?

No. Chord ai is an iOS and Android app, and its vendor says on chordai.net that the app is only officially supported on Android and iOS. For a browser, Chord Detector is a separate tool that turns a YouTube link or an audio file into chords above the lyrics. It has no live microphone mode and no stem separation, which Chord ai does offer.

Does Chord ai work on Windows?

Not officially. The vendor's FAQ says the easiest way on a PC is screen mirroring from your phone, and that an Android emulator might work but is unlikely to be very stable. If you want chords on a Windows PC without either workaround, Chord Detector runs in a regular desktop browser.

Can I use Chord ai on a Mac?

The US App Store listing says Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS, so check the listing for your own Mac before you pay for anything. Chord Detector runs in a desktop browser on macOS and needs no app.

Is Chord Detector made by the Chord ai team?

No. Chord Detector is a separate product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chord ai or its vendor. Chord ai is a trademark of its owner, and this page uses the name only to describe what that app does and how the two differ.

Can I use Chord Detector on my phone?

Yes, in the mobile browser. There is no Chord Detector app to install: open the site on your phone, paste a YouTube link or upload an audio file, and read the chords on the same song page.

Is Chord ai free?

Partly. The vendor says the free version recognizes major, minor, augmented, diminished, 7th, M7th, sus2 and sus4 chords, and Pro adds half-diminished, dim7, 6/9/11/13, add9/11/13, slash chords, voicing recognition, smart capo and alternate tunings. On the US App Store in October 2026, Chord ai Pro was listed at $10.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Prices and features checked October 2026; confirm on the vendor site.

Does Chord Detector listen through a microphone?

No. It reads a public YouTube video up to 15 minutes, or an MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC file up to 50 MB and 15 minutes. Live listening is a Chord ai strength. If you need the chords of a performance, record it first and upload the file.

What can I use instead of Chord ai on a PC?

For chords from a recording in a desktop browser, Chord Detector is one Chord ai alternative. Without an account you get the chords of the first 60 seconds plus the key, tempo and time signature of the whole song. A free account unlocks your first full song with lyrics, then a $5 pack gives you 10 credits, one full song each, or Pro costs $9.99 a month after a 7-day free trial.
