Free tiers

Chordify free vs Chord Detector free

Both let you try before paying, but the allowances are shaped differently: Chordify’s renews daily and covers its catalogue, ours is a one-time trial that works on any recording.

  • Chordify free

A daily allowance of catalogue songs

    • Visitor: up to 2 songs per day on the website.
    • Free account: up to 4 songs on the website; on iOS, 4 songs a day.
    • A limited set of songs, with advertisements.
    • No capo hints or file uploads; both need Premium. MIDI downloads are Premium only.

Source: Chordify help center articles “How do I get my free songs?” and “Is Chordify free?”, read October 2026.

  • Chord Detector free

A one-time trial on any recording

    • No account: the key, BPM and time signature of the whole song, plus the chords of the first 60 seconds. Guests get 5 new analyses per day.
    • Free account: your first full song with chords and lyrics, no card.
    • Works with your own file (up to 50 MB and 15 minutes) or a public YouTube link.
    • After that, a $5 pack of 10 credits or Pro at $9.99 a month after a 7-day trial.

The trade-off: our free full song is used once, while Chordify’s daily songs come back every day.

Be honest with yourself

When to stay with Chordify

If the first column describes you, you may not need an alternative at all.

Stay with Chordify when

  • You look songs up by name and the song is in its catalogue.
  • You want the Chordify app on iOS or Android, not a browser tab.
  • You need MIDI downloads, which Premium includes.
  • Two or four songs a day, with ads, is all you play.

Try Chord Detector when

  • The song is your own demo, a rehearsal take or a file that no catalogue holds.
  • You have a YouTube link and want the chords under the lyrics on one page.
  • You want the key, BPM and time signature of the whole song.
  • You would rather buy 10 credits for $5 once than keep a subscription running.

Pick neither when: you need live microphone listening or stems (Chord ai, Moises), sheet music or tabs from one instrument (Klangio), or an app that works offline. Chord Detector has no mobile app, no microphone, no stems and no PDF or MIDI export.

Each tool in one card: best at, limits, price

A Chordify vs Chord ai choice is really catalogue versus phone app that listens. The others each do something else well, and so do we.

  • Web, iOS, Android

    Chordify

    Best at
Searching for a song and playing along with its chords, in a desktop browser or in the iOS and Android apps. MIDI downloads on Premium.
    Limits
The free tier covers a limited set of songs, shows ads and has no capo hints or file uploads. A visitor can play up to 2 songs per day on the website.
    Price
Basic, Premium and Premium Plus, monthly or yearly. US App Store, Oct 2026: monthly $8.00, $8.99, $9.00; yearly $42.00, $54.00. Web prices: see vendor site.

    Limits
Officially Android and iOS only. Its own FAQ says the PC route is screen mirroring or an Android emulator, and one emulator is “probably not very stable”. Half-diminished, slash chords, voicings and smart capo need Pro.
    Price
Pro $10.99 a month or $69.99 a year. US App Store, Oct 2026; family-sharing variants cost more.
  • Web, desktop, iOS, Android

    Moises

    Price

  • Web, iOS, Android

    Klangio

    Best at
Turning a single-instrument recording into sheet music and tabs, with Piano2Notes, Guitar2Tabs and Transcription Studio.
    Limits
The App Store text says it works with one instrument and that note recognition can't separate several. It transcribes notes, not song chord charts.
    Price
$2.99 for one transcription token, 10 tokens $9.99; Pro $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. US App Store, Oct 2026.

Cost walk-through

Three songs a month or thirty: what a year costs

The cheapest paid option flips with volume. Packs win at three songs a month, Pro wins at thirty, and Chordify’s free limits already cover both if every song is in its catalogue and you accept ads.

Where the line falls: a pack is $0.50 a song, so two packs ($10.00) cost one cent more than Pro ($9.99). From about 20 songs in a month, Pro is cheaper. Below that, packs are, and credits never expire while your account is active. One credit unlocks one track up to 10 minutes; a longer one costs two credits. Only the result is stored; audio is deleted within 24 hours.

Switching

How to move your practice list over

There is no import button, because there is no shared catalogue to import from. You run each song once, and it stays in your library.

  1. Sort the list in two

Songs a catalogue already has can stay on Chordify’s free allowance. Songs it lacks, such as your own recordings, rehearsal takes or a video you only have a link for, come here.

  2. Paste a link or upload a file

A public YouTube video up to 15 minutes, or an MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC file up to 50 MB. Private, age-restricted or region-blocked videos can’t be fetched; upload the audio instead.

  3. Read the chart on one page

Chords usually appear in about twenty seconds, and lyrics a couple of minutes later. Transpose, open the guitar or ukulele diagrams, and let the player highlight the current line.

  4. Keep it

Every result sits in your song library under a private link. Export ChordPro or print it for the stand. The audio is deleted within 24 hours; see the privacy policy.

FAQ

Questions about switching from Chordify

Is Chord Detector a free Chordify alternative?

Partly. Without an account you get the key, BPM and time signature of the whole song plus the chords of the first 60 seconds, from your own file or a YouTube link; guests get 5 new analyses per day. A free account unlocks your first full song with lyrics (1 free credit), no card needed. After that a $5 pack gives you 10 credits, one full song each, or Pro costs $9.99 a month after a 7-day free trial. Chordify's free tier works differently: a visitor can play up to 2 songs per day on its website and a free account up to 4, from its catalogue.

Does it work like the Chordify app?

No. Chord Detector has no mobile app and no song catalogue to search. You give it a recording or a YouTube link and it returns the chords above the lyrics on a private song page. If you want an iOS or Android app, Chordify, Chord ai, Moises, ChordU and Klangio all list one.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes, in your phone's browser. There is nothing to install: open chorddetect.com, paste a YouTube link or choose an audio file, and the song page opens in the same browser tab.

Can I upload my own audio on Chordify's free plan?

According to Chordify's help center, free users do not get capo hints or file uploads; both need Premium. Chord Detector accepts your own file or a YouTube link without an account, but shows only the first 60 seconds of chords until you sign up and use your free credit.

How much does Chordify cost?

Chordify's help center lists Basic, Premium and Premium Plus plans, monthly or yearly. On the US App Store in October 2026 the monthly subscriptions are listed at $8.00, $8.99 and $9.00, and the yearly ones at $42.00 and $54.00. We did not check Chordify's web prices, so see its site. Prices checked October 2026 on vendor pages and the US App Store; they change, so confirm before you buy.

What is the difference between Chordify and Chord ai?

Chordify is built around a searchable song catalogue and works in a browser, on iOS and on Android. Chord ai is a phone app for iOS and Android that listens to audio files, SoundCloud, YouTube or your device microphone, and adds stems, lyrics, MIDI and PDF export. On the US App Store in October 2026 Chord ai Pro is listed at $10.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Chord Detector sits beside both: browser only, your own recording or a YouTube link, lyrics under the chords.

Which sites are like Chordify?

The closest by job are Chord ai, ChordU and Moises, which all list chord detection, and Chord Detector if you start from your own recording. Klangio is a different kind of tool: it transcribes a single instrument into notes, sheet music and tabs rather than a song chord chart. Compare free limits and prices in the table above.

Is a credit pack or a subscription cheaper?

For about three songs a month a $5 pack is cheaper: 36 songs a year is four packs, $20. For thirty songs a month Pro at $9.99 beats packs, which would be $15 for the same month. From about 20 songs a month, two packs cost $10 and Pro is cheaper by a cent.

Are the chords more accurate than Chordify's?

We do not publish an accuracy comparison and cannot verify one for other tools. Detection is automatic and can prefer major or minor on an ambiguous recording, so play the first verse against the chart and check by ear.

Prices checked October 2026 on vendor pages and the US App Store; they change, so confirm before you buy. Our own prices are on the pricing page; see the terms and refund policy.

Run your own song through Chord Detector

As a Chordify alternative, Chord Detector earns its place with recordings a catalogue does not hold. Paste a YouTube link or upload a file: the key, BPM and first 60 seconds of chords are free, with no card.

Detection is automatic: check the result by ear. Competitor prices above are as of October 2026.
